Regard the movie as a whole, we find an alternation pattern. This begins at the time of the first meeting of Leona and Henry and ends in the present (death of Leona). We can aggregate knowledge of the past by multiple flashbacks to put them together like a puzzle in Leonas imagination.

If we have a closer look at the plot, then we find the Hollywood pattern in different versions:

1) Henry, who likes to get rich and independent with his own business, but Leona and her father keep him off his intention.

2) Both, Henry and Waldo want to make much money out of their business, but because of Fred Lord (Detective) they are caught.

3) Henry, who wants to keep out Morano (Kompagnon) out of the business, is blackmailed by Morano because he doesn´t want to get out.

4) Sally wanted to marry Henry, but then she got Leona as rival and had to comply.

This is one of the few films noir that features multiple flashbacks with multiple narrators. Sorry, Wrong Number even features a flashback within a flashback. Henry's flashback is contained within Dr. Alexander's.

In the film its all about Leona, which lies in her bed. Because of this the movie begins at 09.30 p.m. and ends at 11.00 p.m. in the present in the heart of New York. The movies plays in realtime, except the flashbacks.
